Real BYD Seal Efficiency: kWh/100 km Beyond the Dashboard
The Seal's displayed average is useful while driving, but it does not answer every ownership question. Trip-level history makes it easier to compare motorway runs, city driving, winter use and short-trip cabin overhead.
What you can do
- Compare completed trips instead of one rolling window
- Separate short-trip and stationary consumption
- Review monthly, weekday, hourly and speed-related patterns
- Use real history to improve range planning
Why two efficiency numbers can both be reasonable
The car can show a rolling recent window while an external tracker calculates energy over a completed drive. Start and end timing, state-of-charge resolution, parked climate use and estimation methods can all produce a different number.
Treat small differences as methodology, not automatically as an error. Very short drives are especially noisy because heating, cooling and startup energy are divided by little distance.
What changes real Seal consumption
Motorway speed increases aerodynamic demand, cold weather affects the cabin and battery, wet roads and low tyre pressure add resistance, and passenger or luggage load also matters. A useful tracker compares repeated routes and longer periods rather than judging the car from one unusual drive.
BYD Connect shows trip kWh/100 km, personal records and an Efficiency Score normalized to your vehicle history. It is an owner analytics tool, not an official homologation test.
Frequently asked questions
Why is motorway efficiency worse?
Aerodynamic power rises quickly with speed, so sustained motorway driving normally uses more energy per kilometre than moderate-speed driving.
Why are short winter trips inefficient?
Cabin and battery conditioning consume meaningful energy before the distance is large enough to dilute that overhead.
Does BYD Connect support Seal variants everywhere?
Connected data and controls vary by market and software. Verify compatibility for your account before relying on a specific feature.
